Video game
You can practice fencing, boxing, dancing and playing virtual tennis, basketball and other sports. In one study, people who walked ran, and climbed onto a special mat during a fantasy role-playing game exercised more than if they had spent the same amount of time on a treadmill. As a bonus, if you play active games, you are more likely to get more “non-game related” exercise.
Tasks
Do you want to do two things at the same time? You’ll get a “moderate” workout if you wash and clean your car, clean the gutters, or mop or vacuum the floors. It will help you be in better physical shape, and a clean car or house can also improve your mental well-being.
Gardening
You may not consider it an exercise, but if you work in your garden for 30 minutes or so, you will get a decent workout. And it can even put you in a better mood. If you don’t have a plot of your own, consider volunteering at a community garden. They will probably want your help.
Sex
You will burn about 5 calories per minute, almost as many as with a brisk walk. And you’ll use about the same amount of oxygen as if you were raking leaves. Plus, research shows that it can help prevent heart disease, although that only seems to be true if you’re in a healthy relationship.
Dancing
It can be social and a lot of fun, even if you do it alone. It can tone your muscles and strengthen your heart and lungs. It can also lift your spirits. All you need is a little music to get your body moving.
Have that meeting on the go
When you need to talk to a coworker, go for a walk and kill two birds with one stone. You will get some exercise and it can also make your gathering more creative.
